Our Story...
On March 16, 2007, Laura’s Legacy Foundation was created to honor the life of our dear friend Laura and to strengthen the cancer resources in southwest Kansas.
Over the past few years, LLF has purchased laptop computers for patients and families to use during their treatment at the Cancer Center. We have also purchased radiation shields, cameras and other equipment requested by the radiology department. “Laura’s Touches” were given once a month to patients taking chemo or radiation at the Cancer Center to encourage them in their fight. Touches have included cookies from Herb’s, Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates, fuel cards, lunch from Samy’s, Legacy Cookbooks, Winking Heart necklaces, mum plants, pink tulips, just to name a few. In April 2010, the foundation made our largest single donation of $28,000 towards the purchase of the digital mammography machine for St. Catherine Hospital.
In August, we took the opportunity to participate in the Head for the Cure 5K Run in Kansas City. This event raises awareness and funds in the fight against brain cancer. The 2010 event had record breaking attendance with 4,500 runners, walkers and volunteers, many participating as a member of one of the 91 different Head for the Cure Teams. Participating in this wonderful event touched us all and we have seen firsthand that EVERYONE has a Laura in their life to run for. As our foundation evolves, we will become the Leave a Legacy Foundation and we want to encourage others to run for the Legacy their loved ones have left. Everyone has a sister, grandfather, mother, son, father, child or best friend who is waging their own war against cancer. Join us and run in honor or memory of them!
The Legacy 10K and Spirit 5K Runs will be held Saturday October 1st 2011 at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City. Our hope is that you will create or join a team to run or walk in this year’s event. Individuals are also welcome to participate. You can also support the Leave a Legacy Foundation by becoming a sponsor at the following levels: Legacy ($1,500), Hope ($750), Inspiration ($250) or Endurance ($100). The runs will be followed by the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run and pancake feed. Please look for more information to follow and THANK YOU for your continued support. Who will you run for?
Sincerely,
Paige Kraus
